Many of us grew up in an era where mathematics meant repetition—speed drills, assessment books, and working through the Ten-Year Series again and again. While this built familiarity, today’s curriculum has evolved far beyond that approach.

In recent years, mathematics education has shifted significantly. Questions now emphasise real-world contexts, multi-step reasoning, and deeper conceptual understanding. Students are expected not just to recall methods, but to interpret, adapt, and apply them in unfamiliar situations. As a result, rote learning alone is no longer sufficient.

True mathematical ability today lies in fluency—being comfortable with numbers, understanding underlying concepts, and thinking flexibly when solving problems. It is about knowing not just how to solve, but why a method works, and when to use it.

At Knockout Math, we focus on developing this fluency in a structured and intuitive way. Our lessons are designed to help students build clarity, make connections across topics, and approach problems with confidence and precision. With our guidance, learning mathematics can be engaging, purposeful, and even enjoyable. Our team of experienced tutors is committed to supporting each student on this journey.

Knockout Math

2017
After teaching in schools with the Ministry of Education, Junyang established Math Academia. He played a key role in the growth of the centre to an enrolment of just over 500 students across Primary, Secondary and Junior College levels.
2019
Classes continued to grow during the COVID-19 Pandemic, as the centre pivoted to hybrid teaching models that improved accessibility and ensured continuity of learning.
2022
Junyang led Math Academia through a successful merger and acquisition with Indigo Education Group, expanding opportunities for students through stronger academic resources and a broader learning ecosystem. He served for approximately three years on the Board of Directors of Math Academia, a subsidiary of Indigo Education Group.

As part of the senior leadership team within Indigo Education Group, including his role as Dean of Mathematics, Junyang strengthened academic programmes and teaching standards across centres. This translated into more structured learning pathways, clearer progression for students, and sustained enrolment—reflecting increased trust from families.
2025
After completing his non-compete obligations, Junyang assumed the role of Director of the Integrated Programme at Zenith Education Studio, where he served as part of the management team, shaping academic strategy and programme. Upon completion of his probationary period, Junyang elected not to extend his tenure and pursue a new chapter.
Today
As Director and Principal Tutor of Knockout Math, Junyang brings together his classroom and leadership experience to shape a distinctive curriculum. His approach helps students develop clarity of thought, apply mathematics to real-world contexts, and build a deeper understanding that gives purpose to what they learn, equipping them with skills that extend beyond the classroom.
